UK vs. Abroad – where to holiday in 2021!?

After most holiday plans have been cancelled in 2020, you are aching to get away for some much-needed rest and recuperation but where should you go? The world is so uncertain right now and you may feel that it’s not safe to venture too far from home.

If you are a regular jet setter then a holiday at home here in the UK may not seem quite the same to you, but so many people choose the UK as their destination every year and have some amazing experiences! Maybe now is the time to look a little bit closer to home for some of those hidden gems that we are so lucky to call our own.

No flights – no stress

Here in the UK we are lucky that everything is accessible by car or train. There is no need to fly, unless that is your preferred choice of transport. Not only is this great for social distancing, as you and your bubble can drive to your chosen spot but it also avoids the inevitable airport/ plane stress that so many people find overwhelming.

Going abroad there are so many things to consider including;

  • Remembering passports and tickets
  • Checking in
  • Baggage control
  • Luggage allowance
  • Leaving hours early for your flight
  • Exchanging currency
  • Potential to feel worried during turbulence etc.
  • Transfers at your destination
  • Language barrier
  • Potential to have to quarantine on your return/ locked down at destination

The UK holds many beauty spots

When you imagine yourself on holiday you probably envisage yourself strolling along a beautiful beach or visiting a local landmark. The UK is packed full of amazing attractions that you may have been too busy to notice.

The beaches in the UK vary from place to place. In Essex and Suffolk you may not find white sands but there are some absolutely beautiful spots to be explored. For example; Southwold. With it’s array of brightly coloured beach huts and brilliant pier, Southwold is the perfect example of what a British beach should be. After strolling along or spending the day with your family, you can venture to the pier for some of the best fish and chips around. This beach and many others in the area really have something for everyone and are a great day out.

As far as landmarks go, the UK is packed full of them. We are extremely lucky to have such a rich history here in the UK and there is always somewhere to explore and something to learn. Essex and Suffolk boast some amazing castles and manor houses which are an excellent place to explore for all ages. For example; Kentwell Hall in Suffolk. This beautiful Tudor building is a great day out and often holds events which delve into the history of the place. This is bound to keep the whole family occupied.

No need to leave your pets at home

If you have pets, you will know that one of the logistics of travelling is arranging someone to look after your furry friends. If you choose the UK for your trip your little pal may well be able to come along for the ride! There are plenty of lovely places to stay which allow pets, therefore making this option even more stress free for you and your animals.

The UK may suit your budget and time frame

When travelling abroad you are probably going to be prepared to spend a fairly large sum of money to make it the perfect get-away, and if you’re going to spend big bucks you probably want to make it worth it by booking at least a week away.

If you are looking to escape to somewhere in the UK you will be happy to know that you can often get a great price for a place that doesn’t compromise on quality. This may make it easier for you to also book that short 3 or 4 night stay to better fit in with work and other commitments. Either way, whether it’s a long weekend or a fortnight away that you’re after, considering the UK may be the way to go for your next break.
